New Song Recommendations
09/30 Bassjackers & Dr. Phunk - Primal
10/01 Steve Aoki x Timmy Trumpet - Hava (feat. Dr. Phunk)
10/04 Steve Aoki & Will Sparks - Send It
If you're a fan of hardstyle or getting smashed in the face with cake then you were really in luck over the last week... First off Bassjackers and Dr. Phunk collaborated to produce Primal- a big room banger that's intense enough to hype up parties and blow the roof off clubs around the world. However, this wasn't the only release for Dr. Phunk, who teamed up with cake king Steve Aoki and Timmy Trumpet for a brand-new track, Hava, which features those classic hardstyle beats as Timmy plays the Hava Nagila melody on trumpet. Several days later, Steve Aoki dropped another new song, Send It, with Australian DJ Will Sparks, showcasing some of Spark's signature Melbourne bounce. Take a listen to all three below.
10/04 Armin van Buuren - Don't Let Me Go (feat. Matluck)
If Dr. Phunk's hardstyle isn't enough for you, then why don't you try out this one. For Armin's release of the week, Don’t Let Me Go, he joined forces with Matluck, who previously worked with Nicky Romero and Stadiumx for the progressive house track Rise. Don't Let Me Go is worlds apart from Armin's usual trance stylings, starting out pretty light and melodic whilst Matluck's vocals lead you into that high-energy hardstyle drop.
10/02 David Guetta & GLOWINTHEDARK - Jump
Last week, David Guetta and Dutch duo GLOWNINTHEDARK finally released their highly-anticipated Jump. The track is a blends elements from both the East and the Caribbean, and has already been played to crowds at some of the world's biggest festivals, such as Tomorrowland and Ultra Miami. The two acts are used to working with each other, as they also joined forces to produce Clap Your Hands and a remix of Fat Joe and Remy Ma's All The Way Up.
10/04 Curbi - Too Much
British house superstar Curbi caught the eye of Oliver Heldens at the age of 15, resulting in him being signed up as an artist on Spinnin' Records. His recent material, such as Blow Up, BRUH (with Mesto), Get Down (with Quintino) and Let's Go (with Mike Williams and Lucas & Steve) are frequently played during live performances at major music festivals, proving the young DJ's talent. This week, Curbi released a new track Too Much on Helden's own label Heldeep Records, it's quite different from his regular style... listen below and see what you think.
New Album Recommendation
Pegboard Nerds - Heart of the Universe
Before we take a look at the album, first have a listen to the following track.
If you're someone who had access to video games and electronic music pretty early on, you're bound to be familiar with Monstercat label- a brand which has been active in the field of electronic music since back in 2011. Their channel features plenty of tracks which may trigger a sense of nostalgia due to their inclusion of early video game music elements, like the Pegboard Nerds song above.
Pegboard Nerds are a duo that have been releasing music through Monstercat for a long time already, whose earlier work largely focused on electro/bass and was packed full of said game music elements. Pegboard Nerds often cooperate with well-known producers in the bass music industry, including NGHTMRE and Krewella for Superstar and Excision for their track Bring The Madness. This time round, their new album Heart of the Universe consists of four tracks: opening with the future bass NERVO collab, Crying Shame, before moving on to Computa Hakka, for which they worked with Ragga Twins. On the third track, Solo, the pair collaborated with New Jersey born singer Maria Lynn, then last up is Exterminate, which shuts the album down with three minutes of chaotic dubstep.
